How it works

How service of process works with Canadian Process Server

You send the request and pay once a verified process server near the address accepts it. The server serves your papers, logs every attempt on your job's record, and returns a sworn affidavit of service to your dashboard.

For clients

Five steps from request to sworn affidavit.

Everything happens online, in any of the 10 provinces and 3 territories.

  1. 01

    Request

Tell us who to serve and where, add the court information, pick the document type, service type and deadline, and upload your documents as a PDF.

    • Page count is read from your PDF
    • Your price updates as you fill in the form
    • Create your account during checkout
  2. 02

    Get a server

Your job is offered to verified process servers near the address. One of them accepts it.

    • Every server is approved by a person at Canadian Process Server
    • Your documents stay locked until you pay
  3. 03

    Pay

Once a server has accepted, you pay online by card. Your payment is held until the job closes.

    • Nothing to pay before a server accepts
    • Price in Canadian dollars, with GST/HST as its own line before you pay
  4. 04

    Track

Every status change and attempt appears on your job's timeline in your dashboard, and we email you at each update.

    • Server's notes, date and time
    • GPS location and photos
    • Up to three attempts
  5. 05

    Get your affidavit

When the papers are served, your server completes the affidavit of service on your province's template, has it sworn before a commissioner for taking affidavits and uploads it.

    • Download it from your dashboard
    • A copy arrives by email

While it's in progress

Every attempt, on the record.

Your dashboard shows the job's timeline as it happens. Each attempt your server logs carries the same four details.

  • Server's notes

What happened at the door, in the server's words.

  • Date and time

When each status changed and each attempt was made.

  • GPS location

Where the server was when they logged the attempt.

  • Photos

    Pictures taken at the address.

You also get an email at every update, so you don't have to keep checking.

If the person can't be served

Up to three attempts, and a record either way.

Some people are hard to find at home. Your server tries up to three times, logging each attempt with notes, time, GPS location and photos.

  1. Attempt 01

Logged with notes, time, GPS location and photos

  2. Attempt 02

Logged with notes, time, GPS location and photos

  3. Attempt 03

Logged with notes, time, GPS location and photos

Affidavit of service

Sworn before a commissioner for taking affidavits and uploaded to your dashboard as a PDF. A copy comes by email.

Affidavit of attempted service

Also called an affidavit of non-service. It documents each attempt your server made.

Approved servers take jobs near them from their phone. Here is the path from offer to payout.

    Offer

You get an offer near you showing the area, document type, page count, service type, deadline and payout.

  2. 02

    Accept

Accept or decline within 30 minutes. After that, the offer moves to the next server.

  3. 03

    Details released

Once the client pays, you get the documents, the name of the person to serve, the full address and instructions.

  4. 04

    Serve and update

Log each status and attempt from your phone with notes, GPS location and photos.

  5. 05

    Affidavit

Complete the affidavit form, download the generated affidavit, have it sworn or affirmed before a commissioner for taking affidavits or a notary public, and upload it. You tell us how you will do this when you apply.

  6. 06
