How it works in detailHow is the price calculated?
Routine service costs $95-$325 CAD depending on the province, before GST/HST; Quebec is quote only, and in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut the instant price covers Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit only. Your price is the process server's fee, plus any add-ons you choose, plus a flat $35 service fee per file - one per job, however many add-ons. Before a process server accepts, your request shows the total range for your province; the exact price shows once one accepts and is never above the top of the range. GST/HST for the province of the service address is added at checkout as its own line, shown on the payment page before you pay and on your receipt. Routine service means one person at one address, up to three attempts on different days and times, within 25 km driving distance of the nearest courthouse, the first 15 printed pages shared once across everyone in one request, and the affidavit of service or attempted service prepared, sworn and delivered as a PDF. Beyond 25 km from the nearest courthouse, mileage is added: the driving distance beyond 25 km, counted both ways, at the process server's per-kilometre rate (between $0.85 and $3.00 a km). Very remote addresses are priced by quote. Current add-on amounts appear on the pricing page. A stakeout, an evasive person, a remote location and skip tracing can be submitted for a special quote; each quote is shown as the process server's price plus the flat service fee, both included in its total.
See pricingWhen do I pay?
Only after a process server accepts your job. You then pay online by card through Stripe, in Canadian dollars, with GST/HST shown as its own line before you pay. Your payment is held until the job closes, which happens 48 hours after the affidavit is delivered to you if you have not reported a problem; the server is paid after that. You can create your account during checkout.
What documents can you serve?
Statement of Claim, Plaintiff's Claim (Small Claims), Notice of Application, Application (Family), Divorce Application, Notice of Motion / Motion, Summons to Witness, Order, Notice of Garnishment and Subpoena. For anything else, choose Other on the request form. Upload your documents as a PDF and the page count is read automatically.
Where can you serve papers?
Anywhere in Canada: all 10 provinces and 3 territories. Enter the address with its province and postal code and the job is offered to verified process servers near it. Service in Quebec is done by a huissier de justice, so Quebec requests are quoted; requests for Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are quoted too.
Browse service areasHow do I track my job?
Every status change and attempt appears on your job's timeline in your dashboard, with the server's notes, the date and time, the GPS location and photos. We also email you at every update.
What if the person can't be served?
Standard service includes up to 3 documented attempts on different days and times, each logged on your timeline. If the person can't be served after 3 attempts on different days, you receive a sworn affidavit of attempted service, also called an affidavit of non-service. The price covers the attempts and is not refunded. You can order service again from the job page - at the same or a new address - and you see a fresh price before you submit.
Who can see my documents?
Your documents are stored securely and kept private. Only the process server assigned to your job, once you've paid, and Canadian Process Server admins can open them. Your phone number and email are never shared with the server. We handle personal information under Canada's privacy law, PIPEDA.
Read the Privacy PolicyCan I talk to my process server?
No, there's no direct contact between clients and servers. You see your server's notes on your job's timeline in your dashboard and get an email at every update.
How do I get the affidavit of service?
When the papers are served, your server completes the affidavit of service, has it sworn or affirmed before a commissioner for taking affidavits or a notary public, and uploads it. You download the sworn PDF from your dashboard, and a copy arrives by email. If the person could not be served, you receive a sworn affidavit of attempted service instead.
Do you give legal advice?
No. Canadian Process Server is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. For questions about your case, which documents to serve or your deadlines, speak with a lawyer or paralegal.

Questions from process servers who want to take jobs through Canadian Process Server.
Become a process serverWhat do I need to apply?
Your name and business name, email, phone and address; the provinces and cities you serve and your service radius; your years of experience; and a government-issued photo ID. If you have them, you can add your licence or registration number and your insurance information. Where a province or court requires a licence or registration, you must hold it.
Apply to become a serverHow does approval work?
A person at Canadian Process Server reviews every application, including your government-issued photo ID, before any job is offered. Once you're approved, job offers near you start coming in.
How do job offers work?
Each offer shows the area (city or neighbourhood), document type, page count, service type, deadline and your payout. You have 30 minutes to accept or decline. If you don't respond, the offer goes to the next server.
When do I get the documents and the address?
After you accept and the client pays. The documents, the name of the person to be served, the full address and the instructions are then released to you.
How and when am I paid?
Your payout is shown in the offer before you accept. It's released after the job closes, 48 hours after you deliver the sworn affidavit if no problem is reported, and paid in Canadian dollars to your own Canadian bank account through Stripe. Your dashboard shows your earnings and payout history. You work as an independent contractor, so you are responsible for your own taxes, including registering for GST/HST where the law requires it.
Can I choose where I work?
Yes. When you apply, you set the provinces and cities you serve and your service radius, and you get offers near you. You can decline any offer.
Can I turn availability off?
Yes. Your dashboard has an availability toggle. Switch it on when you want offers and off when you don't.
How do I complete the affidavit?
Fill in the affidavit form in the job. Download the generated affidavit, have it sworn or affirmed before a commissioner for taking affidavits or a notary public, and upload it. The client receives the sworn PDF in their dashboard and by email.
