Start with the real requirement
Searching for process server requirements Canada can make the rules sound universal. They are not. Requirements can depend on province or territory, court, document, proceeding, service method and role. A signup checklist is not a legal ruling that a person is qualified for every assignment.
The safest approach is to check the current rule for the specific work you plan to accept. Do not assume that a licence or insurance is universally required, or universally unnecessary, based on a general article.
What our application asks for
The Canadian Process Server application requires government-issued photo ID, your experience level (zero is acceptable), contact and base details, your coverage selection, a commissioning plan for affidavits, and a declaration that you meet the stated age and conduct conditions. The licence or registration number and document are optional at signup. Insurance is also optional at signup.
Those application fields describe this platform’s intake, not every government or court requirement. Some areas or assignments can have additional qualifications. Keep any credentials current and check eligibility before taking work.
Check the court, document and location
Before you accept a job, identify which court’s rule applies and whether the papers call for personal, special, substituted or another form of service. Confirm who may serve, the deadline, allowed methods, recipients and proof. A rule for one document or court does not automatically apply to another. Court orders can also change what is permitted.
Use official provincial legislation and court guidance, and ask a lawyer, paralegal or court registry when the rule is unclear. This page is general information, not legal advice. Never treat a platform signup or this checklist as permission to use a method that the court does not allow.
A practical preparation checklist
- Government-issued photo ID for the application.
- A smartphone and reliable contact details for job updates.
- A realistic coverage area and way to reach accepted addresses.
- A plan for commissioning affidavits where needed.
- Any licence, registration or insurance that applies to your location or assignment.
- A record-keeping process for documents, visit details, expenses and income.
Keep private documents secure and report only what occurred. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a particular type of work, pause and verify the rule before accepting it.
Income and optional documents
You set your routine fee within the current range for the province you cover and see the payout on an offer before accepting. Fees differ by province and may change. The separate $35 Service fee is charged to the client, not withheld from the server payout. Work availability is not guaranteed.

Apply with clear expectations
Once you have checked the requirements for the work you want to do, create your free server account. The application is reviewed by a person, and an account does not guarantee approval, job offers or income. Choose only work you can perform safely and in line with the relevant current rules.
